The Pastel Society Annual Exhibition opened on 23 February. In her President's Foreword in the catalogue Cheryl Culver thanked Derwent for sponsoring the exhibition and writes how awards are a very important aspect of the exhibition. They benefit the Society by attracting submissions and of course they benefit the individuals who have the good fortune to win them.

The first award was for the prestigious £5,000 Alfred Teddy Smith and Zsuzsi Roboz Award to a young artist under the age of 35, who demonstrates a particular excellence in draughtsmanship and innovative thought. This year the prize was awarded to Peter Matyasi for the three works he has in the exhibition.
