View in a room
These dairy cows are directly outside our garden at home. They are a lovely motley crew of all colours and sizes, and the arrayed patchwork of tone and colour in all weathers is a treat. I love the mist that descends after rain, and this painting is a glimpse of the cows' muted colours in the summer mist.
I first knew Frances as a portrait painter and it’s been a fascinating discovery to see the Northumberland farmland where she lives pop up in exhibitions at Mall Galleries and on Buy Art | Buy Now. I find a kind of familiarity in this serene painting, whether it’s the sense of being stared at by a cow or the orange moon fighting through the mist that, for me, conjures up Monet’s Le Havre.Anna Bromwich
