Tom Coates: A Very British PainterMon 7 - Sat 19 April 2014, 10am to 5pm (closes 1pm on final day. Closed Sunday 13 April)
“I want people to see how I work”, says the irrepressible and ever popular Tom Coates who is holding his one man show at Mall Galleries. He will be in the Galleries on many of the exhibition days, sharing his collection of sketch books and working from his Pochard, doing what he is famous for, chatting and making new friends!
Tom's energy and appetite for recording the daily cameos of life is still “as voracious as it is varied”, according to Michael Spender, Museum Director and Author, who wrote the introduction to his last London Exhibition.
Tom has always used his sketchbooks, many beautifully bound, as inspiration and material for his work in the studio.
Many of the new works on show are small and impetuous, executed with Tom's painters flair. The paintings are a journal of his recent travels.
There are over 70 works on display, the prices are as varied as the paintings, and accessible for all pockets!
Coates is a member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and has been President of the Pastel Society, the Royal Society of British Artists and the New English Art Club.
