Ship portraiture itself has a long history dating back to the 16th century onwards when artists would stand on the piers with their portfolios waiting for captains to dock and commission a portrait of their ship.
Today the genre is a diverse mixture of straightforward vessel portraits from privately owned cutters to fishing trawlers to oil tankers. We draw on the expertise of the Royal Society of Marine Artists to commission a diverse range of paintings and sculpture within this field. In addition to portraits of private and corporate-owned vessels we commission artist’s renderings of classic yacht races as well as depictions of historic ships or famous battles.
