About David Pilgrim ROI

Profile

Artist details

Artist's Statement

David loves the experience of being wholly focused and immersed in the moment. Painting ‘plein air’ allows him to engage with a subject and he always aims to get to the very essence of the experience, distilling what he sees/feels and shaping it into something that captures the moment and holds its own as a painterly statement.

Method of Working

Ideas are generally explored directly on location and these works can have the potential to be developed into more resolved pieces back in the studio. Often there is little more to say beyond the original statement and the painting needs no further development. This approach has enabled David to develop observational and technical skills whilst encouraging a greater connection and understanding of the subjects encountered. The energy and focus that comes from tapping directly into the very essence of the moment is an increasingly important element in my work. Both on location and in the studio he generally paints with oils but occasionally use acrylics and watercolours. He keeps personal sketchbooks with him most of the time for jotting down ideas and making visual connections with his surroundings.
