About Frances Bell RP AROI

Profile

Artist details

Artist's Statement

In her portraiture work Frances Bell paints from life, using the sight-size technique, over a few sittings. The artist is happy to travel to sittings but she does have a studio which can accommodate visitors for sittings also.

Bell also loves landscape and wildlife painting, having had a lifetime of living rurally to observe and immerse herself in the natural world. Bell is greatly inspired by the world's wilder spaces, as well as the interaction between animals that we farm and wild animals in our shared environment. The North of England provides so much to observe, and a great variety of texture and light, so Bell finds an abundance of subjects for her work.

Biographical Details

Frances Bell was born in Cambridge in 1983. At the age of eighteen, she left England to pursue a classical training in Florence at Charles. H. Cecil Studios. After completing her training, Bell maintained a connection with the Art School by teaching there from 2005 to 2011. The artist has participated in many exhibitions and has had solo shows in Bonhams, Edinburgh. She has also been featured in, and written, a range of articles, including pieces on commissioning and sight-size for The Artist Magazine. Bell now lives in North Northumberland with her husband and two children; her time is spent completing commissioned portraiture and landscape work.
