John Davis is a wildlife artist band illustrator, having contributed to many publications over the years including work for the RSPB, BBC Wildlife magazine ( where he illustrated the 'New moon' page for several years ) British wildlife magazine, and books including Birds of the western palearctic, Downland wildlife with John Burton, The Birds of Surrey with Jeff wheatley and 'Jewels beyond the Plough' with Richard Jefferson ( a celebration of Britain's grasslands.
Although birds feature prominently, John is equally keen on portraying many aspects of the natural world including mammals, insects and flora and landscapes.
He paints in watercolour, oils and acrylics and is happiest sketching in the field, enjoying the challenge of trying to capture usually distant and moving subjects!
He has won several awards over the years including the RSPB fine art award, British Birds illustrator of the year.
He is based in West Sussex and loves the landscape of the South Downs, but also the wilder more rugged landscapes and wildlife of Scotland and beyond.
