Stimulated by travel and a changing scene, particularly light.
John uses mainly oils on board or canvas following traditional methods inspired by the Modern British schools. Plein air when possible and practicable but also in the studio especially larger scale work. He keeps sketch books going and also use a camera.
Former Chairman Armed Forces Art Society. Born 1932, 40 years in Royal Navy, no formal art training. Started painting as a teenager then was required to illustrate personal journal as a Naval Midshipman.
In addition to exhibiting annually with RSMA and NEAC [selection committee willing] John Webster works towards a one man show at the Tryon Gallery, London every two years. He also shows with the Alresford Gallery and the Wykeham Gallery, Hampshire.
