Peter Vincent PS

Statement

Peter came to pastels as a young man working in Canada alongside a man doing wonderful free illustrations of the project they were working on and have used them ever since for both work and pleasure. He notes that his work has gone from loose to tightly graphic recently.

Methodology

Peter uses pastels rather like watercolour artists - by creating a palette of colour and dipping into it using tissue paper and hands to apply the pastel. He uses paper masks, all the time, rather like a screenprinter lays on different areas of colour. He loves the blank sheet of card or paper and not knowing what he will end up with. He makes thumbnail sketches or more recently uses photos for reference.
