An illustration-based artist, Rebeka-Louise’s work to date has been focused around her experiences with epilepsy, the places that she has visited or the characters she meets within the interior of her mind. Throughout her artistic career, Rebeka-Louise has always been interested in a sense of place, creating somewhere for characters and stories to reside.
The majority of Rebeka-Louise’s pieces are created using fountain pen, a preferred medium due to its ability to create precise details and be built up easily for added depth.
Born and raised in Kent, Rebeka-Louise Lee began drawing fictitious characters from an early age, gradually teaching herself the fundamentals of form and perspective. Throughout her childhood, Rebeka-Louise suffered from severe epileptic seizures, which eventually left her with brain damage to the temporal lobe. Rebeka-Louise decided to study art full time at the age of 15, and by the time she was 21, Rebeka-Louise had graduated from Canterbury Christchurch University with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art. The significant break-through for Rebeka-Louise occurred shortly after her degree show in 2017.
Winning 4 separate awards in the space of 3 months for work which focused on her epilepsy, this led on to Rebeka-Louise’s work being exhibited in and around London. Throughout her time studying for a masters at the University of the Creative Arts, Rebeka-Louise continued to produce work inspired by the things she would see in her seizures. This is an ongoing project that Rebeka-Louise is still exploring today throughout her practice.
