Richard is based on the Leicestershire/Northamptonshire border, with reservoirs and countryside close at hand and where there are always plenty of subjects to sketch. These are used either directly from the sketchbook or composed in the studio to produce designs for his Lino Prints.
Fascinated by wildlife from an early age, Richard's interest in the natural world was fostered by the series of Ladybird books on the seasons, illustrated by Charles Tunnicliffe and by membership of the Young Ornithologists Club.
With his recent return to Lino Printing and the positive response to the resulting prints, Richard has fulfilled a long-held ambition to devote himself full-time to his art. The prints are produced on a small press in his spare room (inspired by Radio 4, Prefab Sprout and Judie Tzuke etc.!)
Boosted by winning the prestigious Langford Press ’Best Printmaker’ award in 2015, Richard is looking to expand his range of print-making techniques in the future.
Richard has been selected to show work at Mall Galleries as part of the Natural Eye exhibition for the last two years. He has work on display locally, in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, and has participated in Northants Open Studios. His work has also been shown at events in Norfolk and Dorset. September 2017 will see his first solo exhibition.
