"I paint from my own elusive but potent memories. Painting facilitates a way for me to revisit, grasp and depict certain recollections and capture their sensuous qualities. Whilst taking the bare essentials and what is neccessary from each personal experience, my paintings are given structural consideration and refined with colourful sensibility.
Painting with urgency before the memory slips, the work is immediate and energetically fluid. The vigorous way of making is simultaneously combined with mediative and pensive gestures. I am fascinated to see how far I push a singular line that is both loaded and subtle."
Yearsley ‘s large scale work, Empty Chair, is strangely seductive . It appears to imply a narrative without ever insisting on one. Perhaps it's the nod to Rothko’s colour fields and the delicate but insistent horizontals of Diebenkorn, combined with the strong poetic resonance of an empty chair that engages us in this visual conundrum.Paul Benney, Artist
