Portrait vignette with a mythical twist.
I have always had a fondness for mythical beings and leafy headdresses, and was delighted when, a couple of years ago, a large commission required me to paint a whole collection of Grecian deities. Since then, I have periodically revisited the characters I created, expanding thumbnails and bringing to life compositions and sketches which didn’t make the final commission.
This piece is one of those revivals: a portrait of the ancient Greek god Pan, complete with vine leaves and a roguish twinkle.
Oil on linen panel, unframed.
