“With an apple, I will astonish Paris.” said Paul Cézanne.  Fruit has a long-standing presence in art history. The Egyptians painted various fruits on their tombs, the Romans mosaiced them into their houses as a sign of hospitality. The history of still life is encyclopedic with fruit as signs of the seasons, of mortality, of the senses and other allegorical meanings.  And of course, there is Eve's apple.  In this selection, we explore how our artists use fruit in their work.
