Applications have now closed for In the Studio. Stay tuned for news about this exciting new project, which you can also support.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an informal chat at Mall Galleries before a final group is confirmed.
The final group will be announced on Tuesday 16 October 2018
The project will commence in November 2018
What to expect from In the Studio
Participants will visit a range of artists in their studios to gain insight into the different stages of an artist’s career - from recent art graduates and emerging talent, to artists’ collectives and established members of the Federation of British Artists.
Through this project, participants will discover what it’s really like to be a professional artist, beyond what we see and experience in a museum or gallery. Participants will engage with artists in the creative spaces where they research and create their work.
As a group, participants will collaborate on projects, design their own events, and create a group exhibition to be held at Mall Galleries. To help them do this, they’ll receive creative input from external groups as well as artists working in different disciplines such as music and performance art. Participants will also have access to specialist mentoring support.
This project is offered free of charge to all participants. Mall Galleries will also provide the group with a wide range of art materials, as well as technical support from our team.
While we are not able to cover general travel expenses for each participant, we do have a travel budget to run a couple of studio visits outside London.
Dates and Locations
For the project’s pilot year, most of the events and studio visits will take place around the Greater London area. Participants must, therefore, be able to travel to attend a couple of visits each term.
In the future, we hope to expand In the Studio to other regions of the UK, so if you are interested in the project but unable to travel, please get in touch and we will bear you in mind as In the Studio grows.
Events will take place from late 2018 until the end of 2019. Because the project is tailored to the individuals in the group, the schedule will take participants’ availability into account. All participants are asked to attend a Project Introduction Event.
