Silver Sunday 2016
Silver Sunday was launched in 2012 by Cllr Christabel Flight, so that older people over 65 can try new events, make new friends and overcome social isolation.
Mall Galleries is offering Free Entry to the Royal Society of Marine Artists Annual Exhibition and chance to watch award winning artist, Peter Barker RSMA painting live in the gallery, demonstrating how he creates such captivating seascapes in oil paint. Just mention Silver Sunday at the Gallery Desk for Free Entry for you and your guests.
You can come along by yourself or bring your friends and family. If you feel unsure about going on your own there’s no need to worry, as you can turn up, meet new and likeminded people and make new friends while enjoying a great day out. Our Cafe will be open, serving hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and cakes.
Cllr Christabel Flight, the founder of Silver Sunday and Westminster’s Champion for Older People, says: “It’s incredibly important to make sure that older people don’t feel lonely as their lives progress. Silver Sunday aims to address this issue by giving the opportunity for older people to get together and to try new events and activities, and if you know any other older friends or relatives please make sure to let them know so they can be involved as well.”
Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, said: “It is so important that older people feel included in London’s communities. That is why I support Silver Sunday and hope that you all have a wonderful time celebrating the valuable contributions that older people make. These contributions span not just London but up and down the UK.”
