Interior of a derelict house in Co. Kerry. I was initially drawn to the scene by the shadows of past lives and their untold stories, but the place has a present & future too, whether destined to return to nature or at some point be reclaimed for human purposes. Exploring the walls, I half-expected to find traces of palaeolithic art in earth pigments not so different from some of those I use today; near-vertical streaks of organic colour, oddly reminiscent of striped wallpaper, chase the moisture down the crumbling plaster and emphasise the geometry of a building where nothing is level but everything must obey the rules of perspective.
