The drawn lines are etched into the porcelain, with inlay colour underglaze lines called mishima under a transparent glaze. During lockdown Gail reflected on the content of her sketchbooks, each filled with drawings of friends and observations. She was inspired to create works in porcelain that were truly personal, showing a figure at rest or confined. We were all confined to the sofa during lockdown, to endure our isolation from others and the world outdoors.
