In my still life paintings, I try to celebrate the beauty of everyday objects which can sometimes pass unnoticed. This work was done from life over the course of 5 days. It took around 20 hours to complete and I worked in layers, building to portray the different textures and reflections. The objects have a special meaning to me as they remind me of the ornaments in my grandma's house and I think they have a vintage look with a modern twist which would complement both a rustic as well as a modern setting. I added the walnuts to create depth as well as to have their warm colours compliment the blues, whites and hints of gold in the other objects. I am always fascinated by how light falls on objects especially on the whites, and in this cloth I could see many different hues which looked very beautiful to me.
My aim was to create a simple but elegant still life that evokes a sense of calmness and peacefulness. By using a single light source I intended to create a bold and dramatic effect to let these objects take the spotlight.
