As someone who was born here and is also Bengali, I explore being in-between identities. I am an artist and therefore not typically Asian, and being Asian means I am not a typical artist given the underrepresentation of South Asians. Using images from my family photo album, I play on these notions. The figures exist impersonally in a personal place, imposing my own experiences onto the scenes. I portray the experience of sitting across guests as a child in an Asian household, there's an awkwardness in the female, you don't want to make eye contact with her, which means you, while the male is more causal. The pantless child is held onto by his mother, keeping him from causing further embarrassment. I use picture frames from my home to combine my domestic interior with the images.
