The Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine launched its Glorious Britain In Spring painting competition back in May as the country reeled under the first enforced quarantine, they weren’t quite prepared for the deluge of entries they’d receive from Britain’s amateur artists, stuck at home and reaching for palette and paints as an escape from the pervading gloom.
From fluffy ducklings to fresh green landscapes, bluebell woods to riverbanks teeming with life, Weekend readers responded in their thousands to the challenge with paintings they felt best evoked the spirit of spring.
The competition was open to all amateur artists in Britain, and waiting for submissions were head judge Andrew Marr and his esteemed co-panellists – Fake Or Fortune?’s Philip Mould, Hollywood actress Jane Seymour, TV presenter Anneka Rice and professional artist Mark Bergin.
