Over the autumn of last year, I returned to painting after many years of printmaking. I have so often included snow buntings in Linocuts. Creating linocuts can be unforgiving. Once a mark is made it cannot be unmade. I had seen the friendly snow buntings on the coast in Norfolk year after year. They were now unromantically wintering on a golf course between Deal and Sandwich Bay. The short grass on the golf course was ideal to study the snow buntings. The background to the painting belongs to the Norfolk wintering snow buntings, their beloved coastal shingle bank.
