Moku Hanga (Japanese Woodblock) print of numerous Whimbrels seen at 2-Mile Landing in Cape May, NJ two or three years ago. At that time I made a number of very crude and rough field sketches using a Sumi brush pen. I always liked one in particular. This print is based on that field sketch and retains much of its primitive quality.
This is printed in an edition of 10 on Torinoko Light Japanese printmaking paper, which is a very lightweight paper. I had only intended to proof on this paper not to use it for the actual edition. But the yellow/cream tint to the paper seemed consistent with the bright sunny scene so I printed the edition on it.
