The painting came about as a result of four sittings with Chiara in the company of three other painter friends. The atmosphere in the studio was one of intense concentration and sustained visual investigation from all of us, punctuated with proper painting conversation and excellent coffee. What is remarkable to me is that the group painting experience yielded four such different versions of the shared reality of Chiara daydreaming whilst posing. In my version, I tried to capture the richness of the light falling on Chiara and her surroundings by as economical a means as possible, keeping planar changes and colour decisions as simple as possible without losing the sense of Chiara's form and the surrounding space altogether.
