Rosa is an exhibition of roses illustrated by RHS gold medallist Janie Pirie. This is a new body of botanical art to coincide with the launch of a book of the same name. Having had a love of roses from early childhood Janie was inspired to illustrate those that had a name connected to her life.
Starting with Rosa ‘Buttercup’, a reminder of the carefree summer days playing in the wild flower meadows that surrounded her Buckinghamshire home, through to Rosa ‘Joie de Vivre’, a rose the artist feels encapsulates her own outlook on life.
Some are depicted in a still life format whilst others are more of a pure botanical nature. Worked entirely in coloured pencils these works will appeal to anyone with a love of roses.
The book Rosa: A Life in Roses will be available to purchase during the exhibition. As a limited edition of only 1,000 copies, this is undoubtedly a collector’s item.
During the exhibition, Janie, or a colleague, will be on hand to answer questions and discuss the inspiration behind each painting and to add a personal message to copies of the book purchased from the gallery.
