A portrait of my husband, completed during the long covid-19 lockdown here in Scotland. When I began this portrait, I remember being worried that I wouldn’t have enough time to complete it before the lockdown lifted and life would return to normal…little did I know that the lockdown would stretch on for months and months! Yet this prolonged period of isolation gave me invaluable time to focus on my painting, and my husband never would have had the time to sit for me for so many sessions under normal circumstances. While painting this portrait we discussed the state of the world, our future plans, and the way life was changing so rapidly around us. This painting will always remind of this extraordinary time, and I will be forever grateful for the prolonged period I had to hone it—all the more as the subject is one that I love so much.
