"This is the eighth in a series of watercolours with the general title of Nude Descending a Staircase. My intention is to explore some of the multiple possibilities of atmosphere, mystery and magic inherent in the theme. Marcel Duchamp produced the first famous painting with this title and since then I am aware of both Gerhard Richter's and Mel Ramos's variations. I want to exploit effects of movement to generate dynamic and intriguing ambiguities in the image"
