It is rarely remembered that, after his famous mutiny on the Bounty, Captain Bligh was sent back to carry out his original mission with a much larger ship, HMS Providence, together with a small brig, the Assistant. One of Assistant's junior watch-keeping officers was Lapenotiere, who seems to pop up everywhere and was to become famous as the commander of Pickle at the Battle of Trafalgar. Here the two ships are seen on arrival at Tahiti, tacking into Matavei Bay.
