I was introduced* to Claudette Joseph, a bespoke womenswear designer and maker, at the 2019 Christmas Craft Fair at the Minories Galleries in Colchester. I found Claudette to be very inspiring and so I asked if she was interested in possibly being the subject of a painting. She agreed and so in the middle of the very busy Fair I took some photos. I started the painting during the first Uk lockdown in March 2020 and more or less finished it in October 2020 except for the usual finishing touches.
I’d like to say thank you to Claudette for being wonderfully kind and supportive throughout the process, as well as being a great subject to paint.*Mary Ratcliffe, a designer, and artist, introduced me to Claudette. She was the subject of another painting of mine, which was selected for the 2020 BP Portrait Award Exhibition.
