"There have been a few unexpected pleasures during the lockdown and sitting for my neighbour Rupert Alexander - suitably distanced of course - has been one of them."
Peter Mandelson, who is a friend and neighbour, was kind enough to sit to me at the new studio I had just built at my home in Wiltshire. One of the joys of portrait painting is spending time with fascinating people and trying to communicate in paint some of what one discerns about their character. There can be few people who have had a greater impact on British politics in the past few decades than Peter, and I would hope to have captured some sense of his authority and incisiveness.
