"My work looks at iconography and how any subject can be elevated to the realm of divinity through the way in which it is presented. I make a piece by building up a landscape of symbols with disparate meanings, creating a distorted world of fractured narratives. Found imagery, pop culture reference and arcane notions form a large part of my subject matter; I take influence from Medieval illumination, the art of ancient civilizations and Freud’s ‘The Uncanny’.
I work largely in paint, but use any medium appropriate to create the effect I want. My process involves mentally collaging images, developed in line with the sampled soundscapes of producers like Madlib and J Dilla. I enjoy keeping sketchbooks as a form of documentation and a way of understanding how to automatically compose with dissimilar images."
