J F Morgan RSMA

Statement

Jenny works emotively to respond to the untamed element of the sea and its inspiring changing moods. Accurate portrayal of ships is as important to her as the more random freedom of moving water in creating overall composition. Jenny also tries to capture the elemental atmospheres created by ever changing weather and tide.

Methodology

Jenny works mainly in oils of fine grade linen canvas, but sometimes use gouache medium on heavy paper, always using brushes. For more detailed accuracy of ships and boats, vessela she resorts to research material, work up in sketches, often to full scale drawings, which can be transferred to canvas. Sometimes Jenny works on more than one picture at a time but she mostly concentrates on one project. Photographic reference material is essential to much of my work, expecially in depicting the now extinct deep sea trawling industry as a backup to the resources from somebody directly involved. Comissions take on average two to three weeks to complete, depending on the size and subject.
