Born in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire in 1949, Robert worked in the Structural Engineering field as a Computer Aided Design Manager until 1992 when he moved to Whitby, North Yorkshire and became a full time painter.
Working in Watercolour, Oil, and Pastel, Robert's inspiration is the challenge of capturing light and atmosphere in a contemporary impressionistic style.
He paints, mainly landscape and coastal scenery, around his home in North Yorkshire, and on his annual trip to Venice. Other places of inspiration have been Cornwall, the South Coast, Wales, Scotland, Greece, France & India.
In 1993 Robert exhibited for the first time with the Royal Society of Marine Artists and in November 1997 he was elected a member and was subsequently featured on Tyne Tees Television's "A Day In The Life Of ..." series.
He is the current Archivist for the Royal Society of Marine Artists.
Robert's first book, entitled 'Painting Boats & Coastal Scenery' was published by Crowood Press in August 2009, 'Painting in Pastel's in September 2010 and 'Painting Landscapes in Oils' published in February 2012.
His work has been featured in several publications, including The Artist, The Artist & Illustrator, Pratique des Arts, Yorkshire Life, Yorkshire Today, 'How to paint Watercolour Landscapes from Photographs' and the Dalesman to name a few.
Robert has instructional DVDs produced by Townhouse Films; 'Successful Summer Landscapes In Watercolour', 'Painting Atmospheric Watercolour Landscapes', 'Oil Sketching On Location' and 'Atmospheric Coastal Watercolour Landscape'.
His 'One Man Exhibition' is held in his home town of Whitby, annually at the end of May.
