Linda Alexander ROI

Statement

Linda Alexander has always been fascinated by the way that strong sunlight illuminates everything, be it buildings or flowers. She especially loves the delicate beauty of reflected light and shadows which carry reflected colour and light within them. She looks for these qualities in everything she paints. For her, sunlight breathes life into botanical subjects which can often be portrayed in a very dull and uninteresting manner.

She has been drawn towards these botanical subjects because of their extraordinary organic shapes and structures and because of their beautiful textures and details. It is a world that constantly inspires her.

Bio

Alexander is a London based artist whose early career as an architect was spent working for a number of award winning architectural practices. Her graphic skills were employed preparing artwork for national and international competitions. Her work was exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

She has drawn and painted since childhood and in 2005 realised her lifelong ambition to become a professional artist following a sell-out exhibition at The Hicks Gallery. Since then she has sold her work internationally through The Chelsea Flower Show and London galleries, won a number of prestigious awards, and shown regularly at the annual exhibition of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. She was elected an Associate member of the ROI in 2014.

Her early work predominantly consisted of watercolour townscapes and she was a course tutor for Centro Mallorca holidays for a few years. But now she works almost entirely in oils and teaches privately in her studio in Isleworth. Currently her subjects are largely still life and of a botanical nature.
