About David Allen RSMA

Profile

Artist details

Artist's Statement

David Allen is inspired to paint in order to capture the wonderful quality of light, form and colour he sees around him, particularly in nature. David's paintings are his statement.

Method of Working

David works mainly in pastels, painting small pictures in situ and larger works in the studio. David uses some 700 pastels and works on a paper with a rough surface texture. His locations for painting are obtained by going out into the countryside or to the coast and tracking down interesting subjects. Sometimes David paints a subject immediately, otherwise he makes a record of it so as to return in the future when the light may be better for painting.
