Statement

When John goes out to paint, he is looking at the interactions of colour and shape and through the accumulation of paint, the drawing finds itself. He works until his energy runs out.

Methodology

John works from life either outside, or in the studio. With his dog Dixie as his companion, he will take his easel out into the landscape where he will try to complete the painting in that session, aiming to find an emotional response to what he sees and feels before him. Likewise working in the studio, the process can be different in that the painting may be built up over many sessions, although he is still responding to the subject before him.

Bio

John was born in Windsor in 1961. He grew up in Denham, Buckinghamshire before moving to Harefield, Middlesex, where he now lives. He initially trained as a draughtsman in electrical engineering, before becoming a full time artist. Although mainly self taught, he was awarded the NEAC drawing scholarship in 2012 which has developed his work through the influence of New English Art Club members.

He has exhibited with The New English Art Club since 2009 and with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters since 2010. His work is in various collections throughout the world. In 2018, John was elected an associate member of the Society of Wildlife Artists.
