Statement

Trained at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, Charlotte is a figurative artist whose work is grounded in drawing and observation.  

Her paintings often hint at an underlying narrative, that runs subliminally through the image - imbuing it with a frisson that is as unexpected as it is mysterious. 

Methodology

The paintings always begin with an idea that has its basis in drawing and composition.

Whether the subject is imagined or observed, Charlotte will usually make preparatory compositional studies, looking at the placement and relationship of intervals, shapes and rhythms. Even what appears to be spontaneous or unexpected is usually the outcome of careful consideration.

1988 - 1991 Cheltenham & Gloucester College of Art and Technology BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art

1992 - 1995 Royal Academy of Arts, London Post Graduate Diploma in Painting

1996 - 1998 Head of Art - Brockwood Park International School (GCSE, GCE and A’Level)

1997 - 2001 Workshops for Schools within Greenwich Borough Council and events like 'The Big Draw'
