Maurice Sheppard HRNEAC
Statement
Maurice Sheppard has painted winter landscapes since his school days. He was trained at Loughborough (1966 to 1967), Kingston College of Art (1967 to 1970), and the Royal College of Art (1970 to 1973). His work, studied from life, supports the traditions of "Realism and Naturalism". Since 2015 he now paints what he calls "Decorations" - paintings simplified in line, colour and texture.
Methodology
Sheppard uses watercolour studies extensively to guide the aesthetic of his larger work in oil paint. These major oil works were shown in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions from 1971 to 2013 (some 70 oils and one drawing in ink). Now his work appears at the New English Art Club.
