Statement

My work is a diary in paint. I follow my passions about nature and sustainability to try to find new ways of communicating these with the viewer. The underlying theme and subject matter revolve around this, specifically woodlands. Through immersing ourselves in nature, we can reflect on our role and purpose and gain perspective.

Weaving an elaborate dialogue with nature, I temporarily become just one more element in the fabric of the woodlands and landscapes I paint. I often return many times to a place, getting to know its temporal changes, increasing my sense of belonging and hopefully this deep understanding of a place will infuse a sense of passing time into my work. I explore new ways of relating to nature, allowing a poetic intergenerational voice to emerge in the dialogue between myself and the trees and paths I walk through.

While I favour the medium of Unison pastels and charcoal, both for lightness and speed in situ and in my studio, I also use a variety of materials and processes in response to each project's uniqueness.

During research and production new areas of interest arise and lead to the next body of work and experimentation. It's an endless journey of discovery.
