Lyon & Turnbull presents the 14th edition of MODERN MADE, bringing together a carefully considered selection of modern and contemporary art, design, craft and studio ceramics.
Reflecting the environments in which these works were first created and collected, the sale offers insight into how such objects continue to be lived with today. A central feature is a private collection of early 2000s contemporary art, capturing a transformative moment in the global art world, when new artistic voices and approaches were gaining prominence. This is complemented by a strong selection of Modern British Art, spanning from Sickert through the post-war period and beyond.
The sale also includes works by key European artists such as Klimt, Picasso and Braque, alongside a rare wartime masterpiece by Jankel Adler. Kinetic and Light Art forms a further point of focus, with works that explore movement, perception and the relationship between object and viewer.
Design is integral to the selection, led by an early example of Ettore Sottsass’s Carlton bookcase, presented alongside works by Gerald Benney and Breon O’Casey. Together, these works highlight the continued dialogue between art, craft and design.
The sale concludes with Part II of Y2K! Selected Works from an Important Private Collection of Contemporary Art (lots 423–442), featuring works by international artists including John Sonsini, Barnaby Furnas and Elizabeth Peyton.
