When Wildlife Becomes Co-Author: Five Field Stories Behind The Natural Eye 2026

Published 24 September 2026

More than 360 paintings, drawings, sculptures and prints in the Society of Wildlife Artists’ 2026 exhibition began not in a studio but in the field, shaped by stoats that leap into palettes, cassowaries that linger to be sketched, and fox cubs that turn a suburban garden into a living studio.

From a stoat leaving yellow ochre paw prints across a painting on Islay, to fox cubs observed from a kitchen window and a remarkably cooperative cassowary in the Atherton Tablelands, Luxurious Magazine explores the wildlife encounters, patience and chance behind the Society of Wildlife Artists' work.

Six Artists Share Stories of Wildlife Encounters That Inspired Their Work

Published 1 October 2026

What happens when wildlife becomes the inspiration - and sometimes even an unexpected collaborator - behind a work of art? Environment Journal speaks to six Society of Wildlife Artists members about the encounters in nature that shaped works currently featured in The Natural Eye 2026.

[...] By watching snakes regularly we've learned so much about adder behaviour. Although I still have a healthy respect for the danger they pose, I feel privileged to have this window into the life of such a rare and little-known creature. My screenprint of the adders will be in the SWLA’s Natural Eye exhibition this year.
